Gotri Medical College Intern arrested for allegedly raping 2nd-year MBBS medico

Vadodara: In a shocking incident, an intern at the GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society) Gotri Medical College has been arrested for allegedly raping a junior MBBS student at Vadodara Gotri Hospital on Sunday.

The accused has been remanded in police custody for two days on the direction of the Vadodara court on Monday. It was alleged that the victim, a second-year MBBS student was raped on the terrace of the medical college hospital.

According to the police, the victim suffered injuries to her shoulder and neck by the accused during the sexual assault.

As per ANI report, both the student and the accused came to know each other while doing an internship at the same medical college. They later became friends with each other. After some time, a rift happened between both of them, said the police.

Telling the matter in detail, RD Kava, Assistant Commissioner of Police, B Division, Vadodara, told the Indian Express, “After April last year, they became friends and had intimate conversations daily… When they had a fallout, the accused began blackmailing the survivor that he would make the call recordings public. Afraid, the woman decided to meet the accused to resolve the issue. They met at the medical college’s terrace at the accused’s insistence. When she turned down an objectionable demand of the accused, he overpowered her and raped her.”

Following the incident, the victim approached the police the next day and filed a complaint against the final-year student. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the accused under relevant sections of IPC.

More details on the matter are awaited. Further investigation is underway.
