Misleading Info! 3 FMGs from Gujarat barred from practice

Ahmedabad: Taking action against three medical graduates from abroad, authorities have barred them from practicing in the State after it was found that there were discrepancies in the documents submitted by them.

Among these three students, whose results stood cancelled, two students hail from Anand, while the other is from Ahmedabad. Gujarat Samachar has reported that the National Board of Examinations (NBE) had directed the respective medical councils to revoke their passing certificates. With this, they will also lose the registration numbers granted to them for medical practice. Therefore, they will no longer be allowed to practice in the State.

Apart from these three students from Gujarat, the results and passing certificates of five other candidates from across the country have also been revoked, the Daily has reported.

During the review process of the documents submitted by the candidates, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) found that there were discrepancies in the documents, proving that their qualifications were either insufficient or invalid for the exam.

As per the latest media report by Gujarat Samachar, such discrepancies included forged documents, incomplete courses, and provisional certificates that mislead the authorities. Apart from this, the authorities also discovered that some of the students from Gujarat and other States completed internships during their sixth to twelfth semesters, and new subjects were introduced during the sixth year.

Consequently, NBE mentioned how the provisional certificates submitted for eligibility were misleading and the degrees had been issued beyond the session cutoff dates. Accordingly, the authorities revoked the results and passing certificates for all eight students, including five students from the December 2023 session and three from the June 2023 session.

According to the existing rules and regulations, after completing their medical education from abroad, the FMGs must clear the screening test i.e. the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) conducted by NBE to obtain the medical practice registration in India.

The FMGE exam is held twice a year by NBE- in June and December. However, before appearing for the FMGE test, the candidates must obtain an eligibility certificate based on their primary medical qualifications. For this, they have to submit various documents related to their course, subjects and internship completed abroad.
