Karnataka- There are more than 12,000 seats available for MBBS courses in Karnataka in the academic year 2024-25, the state education minister recently stated.
According to TOI report, Congress political party leader Ivan D’Souza raised a question to Karnataka Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash R Patil regarding the MBBS seats available in the state in 2024-25.
While answering Mr Ivan, Patil informed that 12,045 MBBS seats are available for allotment in the academic year 2024-25. Of these, 3,800 seats are available for medical aspirants in 24 government medical colleges in Karnataka. Among these 3,800 MBBS seats, 567 are All India Quota seats and the rest are State Government quota seats, as per the TOI report.
Moreover, there are 8,245 MBBS seats available for students in 47 private medical colleges in Karnataka. Of these, 2,108 are government quota seats and the rest are All India quota, Deemed University quota, NRI quota and other quota seats. Among these, 10 private medical colleges have a total of 250 seats, while other colleges have 245 seats for the students. However, six private colleges have approved 200 seats.
The percentage of MBBS seats has increased compared to the previous academic year, where 11,595 MBBS seats were available in Karnataka in 2023-24.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a relief to medical students, the Karnataka government has decided not to increase the fees for MBBS course for the academic year 2024-25. With this, the MBBS course fee will continue to be ₹50,000 per year in government medical colleges and ₹1,28,746 per year for government quota seats in private medical colleges for the academic year 2024-25.
