Bengaluru: A 55-year-old man has allegedly cheated of Rs 70 lakh by three fraudsters on the pretext of promising to secure an MBBS seat for his son at a private college.
As per a media report in the Times of India, the complainant, identified as a resident of West Bengaluru told the police that his son had completed II PU and wanted to take up medicine. A police source said, "He received a call from a woman named Anjali three months ago. She claimed to be a consultant with a private firm that could arrange a medical seat for his son."

The complainant asked one of the accused if her firm could arrange a seat for his son at a specific college which is located near an upmarket tech market in Bengaluru. She is reported to have assured him of a seat in return for a payment of Rs 70 lakh.
The complainant then met the accused in one at a hotel near RT Nagar on April 10 and gave her Rs 25 lakh in cash and Rs 10 lakh in the form of a demand draft. She then asked him to meet her at the medical college the following day.
The complainant and his son set out to meet the accused at the medical college the following day. When the duo came around 4.30 pm, the accused introduced them to two other persons. Eventually, the admission applications were given to the complainant after the latter paid another Rs 35 lakh.
The three accused told the complainant that he would receive an email as soon as the medical seat was allotted. He received an email the same night and after that, he went along with his son to the medical college for the admission process.
However, when the complainant reached there, the staff at the college informed him that no seat was allocated for his son at their college and asked him to register a complaint with the police station.
The Whitefield police subsequently registered a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy against the three accused reports the TOI.
