HoD of Urology, KMC Hospital Elected Secretary of Urological Society of India
Delhi: Dr. GG Laxman Prabhu, a well-known urologist from Mangalore has been elected as Secretary of the Urological Society of India (USI). He will take over the charge as Secretary from next year and his tenure as Secretary will be for the period 2023-2024. He was declared the secretary of USI during the 55th annual conference of the society which was held in Ahmedabad between January 27- January 29.
He is currently serving as the Professor and Head of the Department of Urology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. He has also been part of many doctors' bodies. He was appointed as the President of Karnataka Urology Association, Secretary of Association of Southern Urologists, and council member of Urological Society of India in the past.
Dr. Prabhu is an MS, Mch (Urology), and DNB (Urology). His fields of expertise include General Urology, Urolithiasis, Andrology, Urodynamics, Recon-Urology, Urogynecology, and Endourology. Dr. GG Laxman Prabhu told Medical Dialogues, "I am glad to be part of the Urological Society of India. However, I will be taking over the charge from the next year. Hence, I can only talk about my future plans regarding the society after I officially start serving as the Secretary of USI."
Speaking in the election, Dr. GG Laxman Prabhu said, "I am glad to be part of the Urological Society of India. It will be a great opportunity to serve the cause of Urology and the members and I am looking forward to it."
Other than Prabhu, Dr. Sanjay B Kulkarni from Pune has been elected as the President and Dr. Pankaj Maheshwari from Mumbai has been elected as the Treasurer of USI. Urological Society of India has congratulated the new elected members via social media
The Urological Society of India (USI) came into existence as Urology Section of the Association of Surgeons of India(ASI) at their Annual Conference in Baroda in December, 1961. The first department of Urology, free from the shackles of general surgical service probably was at Georges Hospital, Bombay in 1961-62 with Dr. B.N. Colabawalla as the Head. The Society has created 4 zonal chapters with the idea of spreading urology to each & every corner of India. Each zonal chapter conducts CME programs & workshops and zonal annual conference which are attended by 300-400 delegates.
