Thrissur: A first-year MBBS student at Jubilee Mission Medical College passed away after falling from the hostel building in a suspected suicide incident.
According to police, the incident came to light when another student saw her fall from the 14th floor of the girls’ hostel building.
Hospital authorities, after noticing her lying on the ground with injuries, rushed to the spot and shifted her to the emergency department, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Hindu reported that the police preliminary findings suggest that the student may have jumped from the 14th floor of the hostel around 10 am. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be ascertained.
Thrissur East Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Police said a detailed probe was underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They said investigators would soon examine her hostel room and record statements from her relatives and friends.
The body will be handed over to her relatives after the postmortem examination, reports PTI.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a 26-year-old medico from the Department of Anaesthesia at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) allegedly committed suicide after administering an overdose of anaesthesia medication to himself. His body was found inside his room at the university's Sushrut Hostel, located on the sixth floor. Police recovered a cannula and medicines beside his body.
A three-page suicide note was recovered from the room in which the doctor apologised to his parents and sister, expressed regret over being unable to fulfil their expectations, and asked them to take care of one another. He also reflected on his personal struggles, saying he had spent his life running away from reality. In the note, he urged people to be kind to others, not mock anyone's suffering, and to remain grateful for what they have before bidding farewell to the world.
