Aspired to become a singer, Pune 1st year MBBS student found dead, family cites depression

Suicide
Pune: In an unfortunate incident, a 23-year-old first-year MBBS student studying at a medical college in the city allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in her rented accommodation in Vishrantwadi.
The parents of the deceased stated that she was suffering from depression and was under treatment. However, the exact reason behind her death is unknown.
According to the police, the student was admitted to a medical college in Katraj at her family's request, but she aspired to become a singer and had a beautiful voice.

While the police searched her room for evidence, they did not recover any suicide note from the scene.
The incident came to light when the student’s mother attempted to wake her up in the morning. Despite calling her and knocking on her door multiple times, she did not respond. Feeling suspicious, the family members then opened the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Inspector Sampatrao Raut of Vishrantwadi police told TOI, "The family members retired to their rooms around midnight between Saturday and Sunday after having dinner together. We suspect that the student died sometime between midnight and 6 am. She aspired to become a singer and had a beautiful voice. However, she enrolled in the MBBS course at a college in Katraj in accordance with her parents’ wishes. She stayed in the college hostel during the week and usually visited her family at their Vishrantwadi residence on weekends."
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra's Nagpur after the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination reportedly left her with depression. Days after her death, the family found a handwritten note in which she apologised to her parents and said she did not have the courage to appear for the re-test.
