Maha: Female doctor booked for allegedly ramming car over puppy
Mumbai: In a case of rash driving, a Thane-based woman doctor has been booked for allegedly running over a 4-month-old puppy with her car.
The incident took place in the parking lot of a society at Vartak Nagar and the matter came to light after one of the animal activists of the society registered a case against the owner of the car who is a doctor and also provided necessary proof against the car by providing the CCTV footage.
Police are still investigating the case and no arrest has been made yet.
According to a recent media report by HT, the police found that the whole incident took place on October 9th at 8.47 p.m., and in the footage, the car was seen running over a 4-month-old puppy.
The complaint was registered by a resident of the society who was a member of a Foundation which is an animal NGO. She informed the police that after people gathered on the accident spot, she also went there and saw the puppy lying dead in a pool of blood. After that, the puppy was rushed to SPCA hospital for treatment. However, the vet declared it brought dead as it suffered serious bleeding and injuries.
Dr. Devendra Bhosle, veterinarian of SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) said that the animal was dead on arrival. "Primary examination revealed bleeding from nasal cavity that could have caused due to heavy blow on the forehead resulting from the accident. The cause of death is traumatic shock," stated the SPCA report.
Another animal activist from Thane, Mehta also claimed that the car could be clearly seen in the footage. She told Hindustan Times that "The incident took place in the parking lot. CCTV footage showed the accused, a woman doctor, ramming the car into the pup. After she realized this, she didn't even stop the car. She could have taken the puppy for treatment. Instead, she ran away from the spot."
A case has been registered against the accused under the section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the Indian Penal Code and 184 (Driving dangerously), 134 (A) and 134 (B) of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 in Vartak Nagar police station.
"We have registered a case and have started an investigation. We've got the number of the car that rammed into the puppy and are yet to arrest the accused," said Sanjay Gaikwad, senior police inspector, Vartak Nagar police station.
