Maha Govt allows transfer of Sinhgad dental college students

Maharashtra: Preventing undergraduate, postgraduate, and intern students of the Pune-based Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital from academic loss, the Government of Maharashtra has recently approved their transfer to other private, unaided dental colleges within the state.
In this regard, a Government Resolution (GR) was issued by the Department of Medical Education and Drugs on March 12. According to this GR, students will be transferred to 24 private unaided dental colleges across Maharashtra to complete the remainder of their course.
The State Government stated that it would affect transfers based on students' merit and college preference. MUHS is the designated competent authority to implement this process and issue the necessary instructions and notifications on its official website.
Meanwhile, to accommodate transferred students, the government has also proposed increasing the admission capacity of recipient colleges by up to 5%, subject to the approval of the Dental Council of India.
According to a report by HT Media, this decision was taken after the college's teaching and non-teaching staff went on strike, disrupting academic activities and impacting students' studies. In light of this situation, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, informed the Dental Council of India (DCI) and sought its intervention to safeguard the academic interests of the students.
In response, officials from the Department of Medical Education and Drugs stated, "Since this transfer is taking place under special circumstances, certain rules applicable to the regular admission process—such as reservation—will not apply in this case." They added, "However, students will continue to receive the benefits of Central or State government fee reimbursement or scholarship schemes for which they were eligible prior to the transfer; necessary adjustments will be made to facilitate this."
