NEET admission fraud: Nagpur man booked for allegedly cheating family of Rs 10 lakh
Nagpur: A 43-year-old man has been booked for allegedly cheating a family of Rs 10 lakh on the promise of securing medical admission for their 19-year-old ward at a reputed government-run medical institute.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly collected the money from the aspirant's father in several instalments and provided fake admission-related documents after claiming he could arrange a medical seat.
The fraud occurred when the girl's father approached the accused after his daughter qualified in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and sought admission to a medical college.
As per the police, the accused, who ran a tuition class, allegedly told the family that he had contacts with two senior doctors at the government-run institute and could help secure admission for the student, reports TOI.
To gain the family's trust, the accused allegedly arranged phone calls in which impostors posed as the two senior doctors and spoke to the complainant about the admission. After trusting the accused, the complainant allegedly paid Rs 10 lakh in multiple instalments between August 2025 and May 2026.
After this, the accused allegedly supplied fake admission related documents to the victim. When the promised admission did not materialise, the complainant approached the police.
Following an inquiry, a case was registered on Sept 26 at Kalamna police station. The accused has not been arrested yet.
Medical Dialogues had reported that in the latest update in the Uttarakhand NEET UG admission irregularities case, 36 permanent residence and category certificates allegedly issued at the last minute by the SDM (Sadar), Dehradun, have come under scrutiny amid the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged use of fake freedom fighter dependent certificates to secure admission to state medical colleges.
