Bhubaneswar: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, has approved 11 Post-Diploma DNB seats across five broad specialities in three government medical colleges in Odisha, expanding opportunities for doctors to pursue specialist training within the state.
The newly approved seats are spread across Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital, Puri; Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Balangir; and Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput. The specialities include Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, and Anaesthesiology.
According to a recent UNI report, the NBE has given approval for a total of 11 Post-Diploma DNB seats across five broad specialties in three government medical colleges in Odisha.
Official sources informed UNI, "The recognised seats are in important disciplines including Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases (T.B. & C.D.), and Anaesthesiology. The seats have been approved at Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri, Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, and Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput."
Of the 11 seats, five will be reserved for doctors currently serving in Odisha, while six seats will be available under the All India Quota.
The new Post Diploma DNB training opportunities will increase the number of specialist doctors in the state and will help make quality and advanced healthcare services more accessible to the people of Odisha.
Through this initiative, doctors in the state will have greater opportunities to pursue higher postgraduate training and acquire specialist qualifications while continuing their government service.
Odisha Health and family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling expressed his gratitude and said, the continuous cooperation and guidance of the Central and State governments in expanding medical education in the state, creating more training opportunities for doctors and providing better healthcare to the people of Odisha are bringing a new ray of hope to the health sector.
With the approval of these seats, it will become easier for specialist doctors with Post-Diploma DNB qualifications to provide services at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and Sub-Divisional Hospitals,” the Health Minister said.
