NBE sanctions 2 seats for DrNB Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at Odisha Medical College
Cuttack: The Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College & Hospital (SCB Medical College) is all set to begin a doctorate degree in Immunology, this academic session onwards.
According to a recent report by New Indian Express, the National Board of Examination (NBE) has sanctioned two seats to offer a three-year Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) degree course on Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology from the current academic session.
This was done after a thorough review of the infrastructure, faculty and patient strength at the hospital was conducted by the National Board of Examinations, adds TNIE
According to Head of the Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology department Prof Bidyut Kumar Das, eligibility for admission into the course will depend on competency displayed by the candidates in the NEET-SS exam, which is tentatively scheduled to be held on 13th of November 2021.
SCB Medical College and Hospital is a public medical institute in Odisha and is he first government medical college in eastern India to offer the DrNB degree course in Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology. The sanction of two seats for post-doctoral training can be said to have paved the way for availing DM course in Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
Prof Das who had started the unit of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology under the Medicine department in 2006, had got government sanction for creation of a separate Department of Rheumatology in 2011.
Currently, the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology is one of the busiest super-specialty departments of SCB MCH and caters to around 50,000 outdoor and more than 2,000 indoor patients annually.
The doctorate degree will help churn out well-trained professionals with competent expertise who will add to the expert manpower within the medical fraternity.
