3 days after taking admission to coaching institute, NEET aspirant commits suicide in Rajasthan

Suicide
Jaipur: Only three days after taking admission to a coaching institute in Sikar, a 20-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) - UG examination allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in a private hostel located in the Surya Nagar area.
The reason behind his death is unclear and the matter is currently under investigation. The police have handed over his body to his family members after conducting a postmortem, which confirmed his death to be a suicide.
No suicide note was recovered from the scene by the police. His death has taken the toll of such cases to 18 this year across the state, 16 of them in Kota and one each in Sikar and Jodhpur.

The incident took place on Saturday when he did not leave his hostel room, and his friends knocked on the door late at night. When he did not respond, his friends informed the hostel authority. The staff then broke open the door and found him dead.
According to the police, the student had joined the coaching class three days earlier and attended it only on Friday. Sub-inspector (SI) of Udhyog Nagar police station, Rohitansh Kumar, told HT, "He had been staying in a hostel in the district’s Udhyog Nagar area. On Saturday, he died by suicide in his room. Prima facie, he went to the coaching centre only on Friday. No suicide note was recovered. The body was sent for an autopsy. His family was also informed. Further probe is underway."
It has been reported that the room in which the student was staying had no anti-hanging device installed in the room which raised serious concern, as the Rajasthan government in 2023 issued guidelines for coaching institutes and hostel accommodations amid the rising cases of student suicides in Kota. This included the installation of spring-loaded fans in rooms to provide students mental support and security and prevent them from taking such extreme steps.
Following this, the police are probing why an anti-hanging device was not installed in the room.
