Rajasthan MBBS student airlifted from Kazakhstan after brain stroke, admitted to SMS hospital Jaipur
Rajasthan: A 22-year-old MBBS student from Rajasthan, who was battling for life in Kazakhstan after suffering a brain stroke, was airlifted to Jaipur on Monday evening for further treatment.
The step was taken after the medico’s parents made an emotional appeal on social media, urging the central and state governments to help bring their son back to India for advanced care. Several social organisations also supported the family's efforts to help him escape.
Therefore, a special critical care ambulance and medical team from Sawai Man Singh Hospital were deployed to receive and transfer Rahul from the airport.
The medical student, identified as Rahul Ghosalya, a resident of Shahpura in Jaipur district in Astana since 2021, suffered a stroke on October 8 and was on ventilator support at a hospital there. For his treatment, a dedicated four-member medical panel has been formed, led by SMS Medical College Principal Dr Deepak Maheshwari.
According to Mathrubhumi news report, he was brought back to India by air ambulance and immediately taken to Jaipur's SMS Hospital under the supervision of medical and district administration teams. After he was admitted to SMS Hospital, he was immediately admitted to the hospital’s Medical ICU, officials confirmed.
In support of Rahul and his parents, the All FMGs Association, in an official statement, had said, "The situation there has become extremely unsafe and uncertain for him. Even the members of the Indian Embassy visited Rahul yesterday afternoon, but no official statement has been released from their side either. It is now crucial that an official medical team from India immediately reaches Karaganda to assess Rahul’s true medical condition. Every moment counts if timely action is not taken; something tragic might happen to him. Requesting our foreign minister to take an immediate action on this."
In response, the Indian Embassy posted on 'X' that Rahul’s condition has been continuously monitored and embassy officials held detailed discussions with hospital authorities, Indian doctors, Kazakh doctors, and university officials to plan his care.
The Embassy added that a neurosurgeon recommended shifting Rahul to the Neurology Department for further investigation, including a CT scan, to decide the next steps, rather than continuing only symptomatic treatment, despite the higher risks involved.
On October 12, 2025, the Rajasthan Home Department issued an official letter to the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting immediate action to bring Rahul back to India. The letter, signed by Deputy Secretary Sowita Mathur, stated that Rahul Ghosaliya had been hospitalised in Bishkek in a critical condition after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
Considering the family’s poor financial condition and the father’s paralysis, the state government urged the Centre to arrange an air ambulance at government expense to shift Rahul to SMS Hospital, Jaipur, for further treatment.
