GMC Nagapattinam MBBS student found dead inside hostel room

Nagapattinam: In an unfortunate incident, a 22-year-old third-year MBBS student at Government Medical College, Nagapattinam was found dead in his hostel room.

The deceased was a native of Pandavapuram in Kottur village, Kancheepuram district. He was studying in his third year of MBBS and living in the college hostel.

The incident took place after he had gone to his room on Tuesday night, saying he wanted to study. When he did not come out the next morning, his friends became worried. They tried calling his phone, but there was no response. The students then broke open the door and found him dead.

Police from Velankanni station reached the spot and sent the body to the Government Hospital for post-mortem examination, as per The Hindu media report.

A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that a 30-year-old second-year postgraduate student in the anaesthesia department at Prathima Medical College allegedly committed suicide by injecting himself with a lethal intravenous dose at his residence. According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the doctor was facing severe financial problems and was under immense mental stress, which is believed to have driven him to take the extreme step.

The police said that the deceased was in deep debt after taking loans from banks in his name. He had borrowed the money to lend it to four of his friends, giving large amounts ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 1.4 crore.

However, when he asked for repayment, they allegedly refused and reportedly told him they would not return the money "even if he were dead." Their response left him deeply distressed, and along with the mental pressure of mounting debts, police suspect this might have driven him to take the extreme step.
