Osmania Hospital Physician booked for allegedly stalking, harassing NIMS resident doctor

Hyderabad: A general physician attached to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) was recently booked for allegedly stalking, harassing, and pressurizing a second-year resident doctor of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to marry him.

As per various media accounts, the physician was booked under Sections 354D and 506 of the IPC by the police based on a complaint moved by the 22-year-old resident doctor in the anesthesia department at NIMS.

The doctor in her complaint alleged that the physician was pressurizing her for marriage but when she refused, he started stalking her and harassing her with unwanted messages and calls. The accused doctor allegedly sent messages to the prospective groom of the female doctor and spread false rumors to defame her.

Distressed by the constant stalking and unwanted advances, the female doctor lodged a complaint against the physician. As per Sub-Inspector (SI) D Nagaraju, the matter is still being probed.

As per a recent media report, The New Indian Express , the female doctor received a friend request on Facebook from the accused doctor after which they became friends on the social media platform. The female doctor reportedly accepted the friend request considering that he was also a doctor and they had common friends. They developed a good friendship, however, after some time the physician approached the female doctor with a marriage proposal but she rejected it and they decided to continue being friends.

Meanwhile, the female doctor was also meeting prospective grooms and was receiving marriage proposals. According to a media report by TNIE, when one of her marriage proposals was getting finalized, the prospective groom allegedly started receiving inappropriate messages on his phone from an unidentified source. The messages were sent leveling false accusations against the doctor in order to defame her. Following this, the woman confronted the OGH doctor. At first, he denied the knowledge of sending such messages but later he accepted that he and his friends were behind the messages.

Thereafter, the physician started pressurizing the doctor to marry him. Times of India reports that as per the SI, " the complainant said that the doctor has been stalking her for the last few weeks and has been loitering in and around the hospital. She felt threatened as he has been coming to her room regularly."

The female doctor was receiving continuous messages and phone calls, even the sister and family members of the accused doctor allegedly started contacting the complainant and was pressurizing her for marriage. The female doctor decided to take the help of police against the physician after an incident where the doctor barged into her NIMS hostel room on December 7 and reportedly confined her in a room for 1 hour.

Further, in the wee hours on December 8, he started creating a nuisance outside the hostel premises in an intoxicated state. The police personnel responsible for guarding the hospital campus rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. Even after that incident the doctor did not stop his unwanted approaches and continued to stalk and call the complainant, her friends, and even her brother. Resultantly, the female doctor filed a complaint against the OGH doctor.
