Twin Infants death in Hyderabad: Hospital, doctors booked under section 304(A) of IPC

Hyderabad: A day after two newborn infants died at a private hospital at the KAM Multi-Speciality Hospital in Falaknuma, a case was registered against the doctors and management of the hospital by the Falaknuma police under charges of causing death due to negligence.

The families of the infants are from Khairatabad and Mehdipatnam, and an advocate from the region filed a complaint on behalf of the family following which the case was registered. The case was registered under IPC section 304(A) (Causing death by negligence) of the IPC.

The body of the two infants was exhumed on Wednesday evening by a team of police personnel along with forensic experts in the presence of Inquest Tahsildar and they performed a spot autopsy, as per a media report in the Siasat Daily.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about this incident where the two infants had died due to an alleged case of medical negligence which took place at the hospital located in the old city of Hyderabad. Initially, the parents were told the children were born healthy, however, later, the staff told the parents to shift them to another hospital as their condition was critical.

Two pregnant women were admitted to the KAM multi-specialty hospital at Falaknuma on May 19, where Dr. Alina Abassi performed surgery on them. The women gave birth to a boy and a girl child, who however died the same day after they were put into an incubator. The family members had alleged that the babies had some kind of burn injuries near their chest and stomach, adding that the hospital staff and doctors did not take proper care of the babies. When they were taken to another hospital, they were declared dead.

As per a media report in The New Indian Express, the Falaknuma Inspector R Devender said that they have begun an investigation into the case and are collecting evidence along with documents from the hospital where the children were treated.

K Venkateshwar, sub-inspector of Falaknuma police station told the Times of India, "We have clubbed the two cases into one complaint and registered a case of death due to negligence against the doctor and hospital, and taken up investigation."

The anguished kin of the deceased babies had reportedly ransacked the hospital resulting in tension in the area on Wednesday due to which additional forces were deployed in and around the hospital. A police constable attempting to control the mob had gotten injured in the process and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the mother of one of the deceased infants had been shifted to another private hospital in the area as her condition had turned critical after delivery.
