19 year old UP NEET aspirant commits suicide over re-exam stress

Maharajganj: In an unfortunate incident, a 19 year old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh"s Maharajganj as she was under stress after appearing for the NEET UG 2026 re exam.
According to the family, the aspirant was upset after appearing for the NEET retake on June 21. Police have seized the booklet and the suspected suicide note, and forensic and handwriting examinations will be conducted.
The student left behind a suicide message on a NEET question booklet which was recovered by the police that read: "I cannot do anything, my brother."

The incident came to light after the family members found her unconscious at home while they were busy with their routine work. She was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police said the girl's father works as a tailor and despite financial difficulties, he was educating his children.
Family members said she was a bright student and they had high hopes for her.
Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Nirbhay Singh told PTI the body has been sent for postmortem examination and all aspects of the case are being investigated. Further legal action is underway.
Medical Dialogues had reported that nearly four NEET aspirants from Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Indore and Haryana allegedly committed suicide, days before the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21.
While the National Testing Agency said that the re-examination was conducted with no complaints of paper leak, four aspirants ended their lives before appearing for the exam, with preliminary reports indicating that the pressure was extreme for them to endure for the second time.
Among them was a 21-year-old woman from Indore who had been preparing for NEET-UG for the past three years and allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a multi-storey building. In Hyderabad, another NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide at her residence under the Miyapur Police Station limits. She was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and was living with her two sisters in an apartment while pursuing her studies.
Meanwhile, a 20-year-old aspirant from Tamil Nadu allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself from a ceiling fan a day before appearing for the examination. In a separate incident, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Hisar district in Haryana allegedly died by suicide just hours before she was scheduled to appear for the highly competitive entrance test.
The National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 re-examination was concluded across the country on Sunday. More than 22 lakh candidates appeared for the examination on June 21 at 5,440 centres across India and 14 centres abroad, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM (IST), in pen-and-paper mode.
