Kanpur MBBS admission scam: Rs 7.75 lakh fraud, 2 arrested, prime accused absconding
Kanpur: In a case of medical admission fraud, a fraudster in Kanpur duped lakhs of rupees by making a false promise to secure an MBBS seat.
The complainant received neither the seat nor a refund. In this case, the police have arrested two accused individuals from Siliguri, while the prime accused remains absconding.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Kalyanpur Kala, who was defrauded of ₹5.75 lakh under the pretext of securing admission for his daughter in an MBBS course. Upon realising he had been cheated, he immediately lodged a complaint at the Kalyanpur Police Station.
According to the complaint, his friend, named a doctor, resident of Kalyanpur, received a phone call on February 16. The caller identified himself as a Principal of a Medical College in Bihar, and informed him about a vacant seat in the MBBS course, according to TOI.
He spoke to the complainant, whose daughter wished to pursue medical studies. When he contacted the accused regarding his daughter's admission, the caller demanded ₹4 lakh.
Subsequently, he transferred ₹25,000 to the medical college's account and ₹3.75 lakh to a Trust account. Then, on February 22, the accused called him to Patna; however, instead of appearing in person, he sent a text message demanding an additional ₹3.5 lakh, in response to which he transferred ₹1.75 lakh.
Based on a complaint, the Kalyanpur police arrested a resident of Shantipara in Jalpaiguri (Bengal), and a resident of Babupara in Siliguri (Darjeeling), and sent them to jail on Monday.
However, the investigation revealed that the money had been transferred to the accounts of both accused individuals. Singh, the Inspector of Kalyanpur, stated that both accused have been sent to jail. Meanwhile, the search for the prime accused is ongoing.
