KGMU intern booked for allegedly sexually assaulting, threatening nursing student

Molestation
Lucknow: A case of sexual assault has been registered against a medical intern at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, by a nursing student. She accused the intern of exploiting her while promising to marry her for months.
Apart from the sexual exploitation allegation, the complainant also accused him of harassing her by threatening to circulate her private photos on social media when she asked him to marry her.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, Vishwajeet Srivastava, said that an investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected. He added that the victim’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate, and the accused will be called to the police station for questioning.

In the complaint, the student, who belongs to another district and is pursuing a nursing course at another institute in Lucknow, alleged that the intern sexually assaulted her over a long period on the false assurance of marriage and later began blackmailing her when she insisted on marriage.
She said that she got in touch with the KGMU intern through a common friend. She alleged that the accused befriended her and later entered into a physical relationship, assuring him that he would marry her. However, when she asked him about his plans to marry her, the accused refused and started threatening her with her private photographs.
Following this, she filed a complaint at the police station, and a case has been registered in this regard.
When contacted, KGMU spokesperson Dr K K Singh told The Indian Express, "The police have not informed the university administration about the case so far. As the victim does not belong to this campus, the university administration will initiate action if the police officially send documents confirming the charges against the intern in the investigation."
This comes amid an ongoing controversy at the university involving a senior resident doctor, who has been accused of harassing a woman colleague, sexually exploiting her, and pressuring her to change her religion for marriage.
Medical Dialogues had reported that the accused doctor is currently absconding and the KGMU has constituted a five-member fact-finding committee to probe the allegations. The panel has begun its inquiry on Saturday and is expected to submit its report to Vice-Chancellor Dr Soniya Nityanand within a week. Meanwhile, multiple police teams are carrying out raids at different locations to trace the accused doctor.
