As per the latest media report by Amarujala, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the four left the medical college in a car and reached the Budhi Rapti river near Yogmaya Temple in the Jogia Kotwali area. After parking their vehicle, they entered the river to bathe but got swept into deeper water and began to drown.
Hearing their cries, villagers from nearby Udaipur village rushed to the spot and jumped into the river to help. While the other 2 individuals were pulled out safely, the medicos were swept into deeper water. Local divers later retrieved them and rushed them to the medical college, where doctors declared both dead.
Jogia Kotwali station house officer Abhay Singh said that upon receiving information, police reached the spot and deployed local divers for the search operation. After continuous efforts, two people were rescued while two bodies were recovered. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary, and the families have been informed.
The police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway. The incident has left students and staff of the medical college in shock.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that two final-year MBBS students of Guru Gobind Singh (GGS) Medical College sustained severe injuries after a speeding car rammed into their two-wheeler near the college campus. The accident not only left the two students with multiple compound fractures in their thighs and legs, with one also suffering a severely broken jaw, but also claimed the life of an unidentified elderly man.
