Man poses as private hospital staff, dupes woman of Rs 4 lakh on pretext of booking doctor's appointment

Gurugram: In another incident of cyber fraud, a 70-year-old woman was allegedly duped of around 4 lakh by a fraudster posing as hospital staff while trying to book a doctor's appointment.
An elderly woman was allegedly duped of around 4 lakh by a caller who posed as an employee of a renowned private hospital here and offered to help her get a doctor's appointment, police said Saturday.
According to the complaint filed by Santosh Handu, a resident of Sector 15, she had received a call from an unknown number on April 14.

The caller introduced himself as an employee of Medanta Hospital and sought her bank details in the name of completing her online registration for the appointment, according to the complaint.
"Between April 14 and April 17, a total of ₹ 3,97,601 was transferred from my bank account in four transactions. I got to know about the deduction of money from my account on Friday, then I moved to the police," the woman stated.
Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered against unidentified fraudsters under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code at the Cyber Crime, West Police Station on Friday. Police said they are trying to identify the accused.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in a fraud case reported in the city, two fraudsters posing as doctors have been arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly duping an owner of a gold jewellery shop of Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of purchasing gold ornaments. The accused had been taken into custody after the shop owner lodged a complaint against the fraudsters revealing their scam. According to the police, the duo pretended to be doctors and targeted shops adjacent to or opposite hospitals.
