UP Medical College students protest after medical superintendent accused of inappropriate physical contact

Unnao: A Protest erupted at a Unnao-based private medical college, wherein the students alleged misconduct and demanded action against the medical superintendent, accusing him of inappropriate touch.
According to a recent PTI report, the incident reportedly occurred on November 17 in Shri Ram Murti Smarak College, when the medical superintendent allegedly touched a student inappropriately on her cheek.
"Atudents at a private medical college here staged a protest on Saturday demanding action against the college's medical superintendent over allegations of inappropriate physical contact with a female student," police said.

The student had initially reported the matter to the college principal, but no action was taken. A subsequent complaint to the college chairman also reportedly went unaddressed, with the complainants allegedly being reprimanded and asked to leave, they said.
Circle Officer Arvind Kumar said, "The incident is sensitive. The victim's statement has been recorded, and a fair investigation will be conducted."
"Videos circulating on social media show the students confronting the Medical Superintendent, and the Soharmau inspector intervening," he said.
The protesting students demanded the immediate suspension of the Medical Superintendent and registration of a criminal case against him.
Tensions remain high on the college campus, with a large number of parents gathering at the site, they said.
Police have initiated an investigation, they said.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that senior departmental head at Medical College Kolkata, also known as Calcutta Medical College, who had been accused of molestation and misconduct by the students, will face an inquiry by the college's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
The allegations surfaced last month after a group of students submitted a written complaint to the principal on November 21, stating that the departmental head had behaved inappropriately with them. In response, the college formed a seven-member committee to examine the charges and submit a report. After completing its review, the panel submitted its report on Tuesday and recommended that the matter be handed over to the ICC. The decision was taken due to the seriousness of the allegations and after reviewing the evidence presented before them.
