4th-Year Medical Student Expelled from WB's Medical College for Using Fake caste Certificate

West Bengal- A fourth-year medical student was recently expelled from Bankura Sammilani Medical College, West bengal for taking admission with a fake ST certificate. After the matter came to light, the college administration immediately lodged a complaint with the police.
The matter came to light when the administration got suspicious about the student's surname and caste certificate. Hence, the certificate was sent to the sub-divisional officer of Jalpaiguri district for verification, as the certificate was issued from Jalpaiguri district. After this, the certificate was also sent to the Backward Classes Welfare Department for verification. Both departments confirmed that the student's certificate was fake.
Following this, tribal groups staged a protest and demanded her immediate expulsion. They surrounded the college and staged a protest. Following this, the state health department directed the college to expel her. The incident has raised questions about whether a larger network is involved in issuing fake caste certificates in West bengal, reports TOI.
The student took admission in the college under the ST reserved category after clearing the National Eligibiity and Entrance Test (NEET) in 2022. After studying medicine there for four years, her certificate was found to be fake, and the college administration expelled her.
