Kolkata to get New Medical College
Kolkata: A new medical college would be coming up in Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (erstwhile KoPT) as they are planning to set up one at its existing Centenary Hospital in Majerhat.
According to a media report in the Times of India, it is presently looking for bids to upgrade the infrastructure through the PPP model, with the 104-bed hospital to be upgraded to a 300-bed super-specialty hospital.

The bidders would be reviewed by retired bureaucrats Bipin Behari Mullick and Anand Deep in order to follow proper norms. The Port CMO Dipak Dutta told TOI, "Within 18 months, the 150-bed hospital is to be fully operational and in the next phase, a 300-bed super specialty hospital is to be developed so that the transition to the medical college can happen."
During the starting phase, departments like pulmonology, cardiology, and rheumatology and in the next phase, there will be neurology, endocrinology and geriatric medicine would be there. Eventually, there would be departments for critical care, transfusion, gastroenterology, urology and nephrology, pediatrics, fetal medicine, dermatology, and orthopedics.
The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a similar incident about new medical colleges in Haryana which would be coming up in the state at a cost of Rs.8925.52 crores, the Haryana CM had informed the assembly. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who also holds the Finance portfolio was presenting the State Budget of Rs 1.77 lakh crore for 2022-23 against the Rs 1.53 lakh crore Budget for 2021-22.
