WB terminates 2 doctors after Bihar council flags medical registration as fake

Kolkata: Taking action against two doctors in South 24 Parganas who were practising medicine using fake certificates, the West Bengal Health Department has terminated their employment.

The Government's action comes after an investigation was conducted into the allegations that these two had got registered in the State using fake certificates claiming to have been issued by the Bihar Council of Medical Registration.

According to an ETV Bharat report, the office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) issued an order for the dismissal of the two doctors.

In its order, the Health Department mentioned that it received a letter on September 11 from the Registrar of the Bihar Council of Medical Registration, declaring that the medical registration certificates of the two doctors in question were fake. A

fter getting the clarification from the Bihar Council, the documents used by them to secure registration from the West Bengal Medical Council were also considered as invalid.

Following this, administrative action was initiated, and the Assistant Registrar of the West Bengal Medical Council filed an FIR at the Bidhannagar South Police Station in Salt Lake.

Meanwhile, the office of the CMOH, South 24 Parganas summoned the two doctors, asking them to appear with all the relevant documents for the purpose of verification of their registration and employment records.

In its letter, the Health Department mentioned that despite specific instructions, these two doctors failed to appear. Consequently, approval was sought from the District Magistrate of the South 24 Parganas, who serves as the chairman of the district-level recruitment committee, for terminating their employment. After receiving the approval, their employment was immediately terminated, on the basis of relevant documents and allegations.

Recently, similar action was taken by the West Bengal Medical Council against five doctors, who had been accused of using fake MBBS certificates from Bihar to obtain their registration in the State.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that several patients treated by the five accused doctors had died, following which the Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes (APHN) filed a complaint against them at the West Bengal health department. The association alleged that the accused doctors obtained medical registration in West Bengal after submitting fake certificates from the Bihar Medical Council.
