Can sitting on toilet seats for long hours cause Piles? - Dr Anshul Shah - Video
Overview
Spending prolonged periods sitting on a toilet seat might contribute to the development or worsening of piles (hemorrhoids) in some cases. Sitting on the toilet for extended periods, especially when straining to pass stools or spending excessive time due to habits like reading or using electronic devices, can lead to increased pressure on the veins in the rectal area.
This prolonged pressure can strain the blood vessels around the anus, causing them to become swollen and inflamed, potentially leading to the formation or exacerbation of hemorrhoids. The continuous pressure on the rectal veins weakens them over time, making them more susceptible to developing piles. While spending excessive time on the toilet alone might not directly cause piles, it can increase pressure and strain on the rectal area, exacerbating existing haemorrhoids or contributing to their development.
Maintaining healthy bowel habits, avoiding prolonged sitting on the toilet, and ensuring prompt bowel movements can help minimize the risk of developing or worsening piles due to prolonged toilet seat usage.
In this video, Dr Anshul Shah, a Fistula specialist at Piles Hospital and Research Center, Jaipur, addresses a common query: "Can sitting on toilet seats for extended periods cause piles (hemorrhoids)?" This session explores the potential link between prolonged toilet seat sitting and its influence on piles.
