|
Overview
Dr. Niti Krishna Raizada, Senior Director of Medical Oncology and Hemato-Oncology at Fortis Hospital Bengaluru, delves into the intricate details of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a prevalent virus known for its association with a range of cancers, including those affecting the cervix, anus, penis, vagina, vulva, and oropharynx. Leveraging her profound knowledge, Dr. Niti Krishna Raizada elucidates the mechanisms by which various HPV strains precipitate cancer in these organs, focusing on the virus's capacity to modify cellular DNA and foster oncogenic transformations.
She further accentuates the pivotal role of HPV vaccines in the public health landscape and the significance of timely vaccination as a primary defence mechanism to enhance the vaccine's efficacy.
Dr Niti Krishna Raizada further discusses holistic approaches to HPV prevention, underlining the necessity of adopting safe sexual practices and adhering to regular screening protocols, including Pap smears and HPV DNA tests. These measures are crucial for the early detection and management of precancerous conditions, thereby reducing the HPV-related cancer burden.
