10 X-Rays on one corpse: 2 suspended, 11 medical professionals under scanner at LLRM
Meerut: 11 medical professionals associated with Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College (LLRM) are under the scanner on account of allegedly performing 10 X-rays on a dead body. Two junior doctors have already been suspended in connection to the matter.
The incident took place after a 45-year old rickshaw puller was brought to LLRM after he met a road accident. During the course of treatment, the man died in the emergency ward. The body was then taken for the X-ray despite the passing of the patient .
According to ABP News, the reason for this was that there were few fractures observed on the body of the dead patient. The doctors of surgery and orthopaedic department were in doubt regarding the cause death of the patient.
The Orthopedic department was pointing out that death due to fracture in the chest could not happen, while the surgeons were saying that it was death due to fracture.
ABP news added that for the same 10 X-rays were done on the dead body. The information of performed X-ray on the corpse was given to the head of the Radiology department and the Principal of the institution.
Responding to the matter, the principal ordered a detailed investigation of the incident. All the doctors associated with orthopaedic and surgery departments, who were on duty have been asked to give an explanation on the matter.

Dr RC Gupta, principal, LLRM Medical College told the TOI, "A written explanation has been sought from 11 doctors for this procedural lapse. When a person dies, the actual way to go about finding the cause of the death is to get his post-mortem conducted. While there is procedural lapse, it seems that their intention was to find out the reason behind his death."
Dr Raj Kumar, Meerut chief medical officer informed the TOI, "The medical college is not my department; however, it is a serious procedural lapse. If the doctors had to ascertain the cause of death, they should have sent the body for post-mortem. Also, X-rays are conducted during post-mortem only when there is a gunshot or age verification is to be done."
