25 Doctors conferred Dr BC Roy Award by the President on Doctors Day
New Delhi: Celebrations of Doctor's Day saw a grand presentations at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, with the President Of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presenting Dr. BC Roy National Awards to 25 medical practitioners from across the country. The awards were given to doctors for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The Bidhan Chandra (B C) Roy Award was instituted in 1976 in memory of B. C. Roy by Medical Council of India. The Award is presented by the President of India in New Delhi on July 1, the National Doctors' Day.
Following were the recipients of the award:-
1. Dr. Mammen Chandy- Renowned Hematologist and currently the Director of TATA Medical Centre in Kolkata, West Bengal; Dr Chandy has been selected for the Dr BC Roy Award in the category of Eminent Medical Person for the year 2008
2. Prof. Rajeshwar Dayal- Professor and Head of the Department, Paediatrics at SN Medical College, Agra, his series on leprosy in children is one of the largest read research in India. Prof Dayal has been selected for the award in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2008.
3. Dr. Rohit V. Bhatt- Currently the Chief of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, BD Amin General Hospital, Baroda and having more than 40 years of experience in the field of Medical Education, Dr Rohit V Bhatt has been selected for the award in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2008.
4. Dr. Neelam Mohan- Director, Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Herpetology and liver transplantation at Medanta Medicity, Gurgaon since 2010, Dr Neelam Mohan is known for bringing and setting up liver transplant programs at many prominent hospitals of the country. Dr Mohan has been selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2008.
5. Prof. Mohan Kameswaran- A previous recipient of a "Padma Shri," Prof. Mohan Kameswaran is known to be one of the pioneers of Cochlear implant surgery and was responsible for starting Cochlear implant surgery in around 30 centres across India. Known as the first surgeon in south and south-east Asia to have performed Auditory Brain Stem implant, Prof. Mohan Kameswaran has been selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2008.
6. Dr. Harsha Jauhari- Chairman and Sr Consultant, Department of Renal Transplant Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital New Delhi for the past 28 years, Dr Jauhari is not only known for his medical skills, but his knowledge and expertise in solving the ethical and legal issues related to transplant of the Human Organ. Dr. Harsha Jauhar has been selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2008.
7. Dr. Gopal H. Badlani- Professor and Vice Chair, Urology and Director of Uro-Gynaecology Regenerative Medicine program at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Centre, in Winston Salem, NC, Dr Badlani is a world expert in the field of urinary incontinence. He has been selected in the category of Socio Medical Relief for the year 2008
8. Dr. Yash Gulati - Currently a Senior Consultant of Orthopaedics at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, Dr Yash Gulati has been selected in the category of Socio Medical Relief for the year 2008
Year 2009
1. Dr. K.H Sacheti - A renowned Orthpedician and he is known for his drive against polio and his contributions to the field of medicine and medical education. The man behind creation of govt recognised devices like INDUS KNEE and INNOVIS HIP, he has been selected in the category of Medical-cum-Statesman for the year 2009.
2. Dr. Atul Kumar - A popular educationist and ophthalmologist, as well as the Chief and Professor of Ophthalmology at Dr RP Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr Atul Kumar has been conferred with the prestigious Dr BC Roy Award by the Medical Council of India in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2009
3. Dr. Renu Saxena- Currently the Prof. and HOD of Haematology at AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. Renu Saxena has been conferred with the prestigious Dr BC Roy Award by the Medical Council of India in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2009
4. Prof Dr. Kanan A. Gelikar - Currently, the Prof and HOD of the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Government Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad, Dr Gelikar, not only has a 30 year teaching career behind her, but is also various committees related to MTP and PNDT Acts in the state. She has been selected for Dr BC Roy Award by the Medical Council of India in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2009
5. Dr. A.K. Kriplani- Dr AK Kriplani, Director and HOD, Minimal Access, Bariatric & GI Surgery at Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon has been selected for the Dr BC Roy National Award for Best talents in encouraging the development of medical specialities for the year 2009
6. Dr. G.V. Rao - Dr Rao is currently the Director as well the Chief of Surgical Gastroenterology, Minimally invasive surgery and transplantation services at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, and Incharge of gastroenterology,training program (DNB, PhD, fellowship programs). He has selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2009.
7. Dr. H.S. Bhanushali- Known as the father of Thoracoscopy in India and the having a career of 4600 chest surgeries and more than 12000 general surgeries, Dr Bhanushali is also known to have developed Kaushalya Trust Hospital in Thane, Mumbai. He has been selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2009.
8. Dr. Moti Lal Singh- A prominent surgeon in the state of Bihar and having more than 3 decades of teaching experience at Patna Medical College, Dr. Moti Lal Singh has been selected in the category of outstanding service Socio Medical Relief for the year 2009
9. Dr. C.N. Purandare- A renowned gynaecologist associated with three hospitals of Mumbai and having 38 years of teaching experience in the field Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Purandare is known for his fight against maternal mortality and his fight for family planning in the country. Dr Purandare has been selected in the category of outstanding service Socio Medical Relief for the year 2009
10. Prof Dr. C.V. Hari Narayan- One of the first men, who told the country, that Indians are actually deficient in Vitamin D, Dr Narayan is a renowned clinician, as well as an accomplished researchers. Known for his contributions to the field of Endocrinology, Prof Dr C.V. Hari Narayan has been selected for the award in the category of Oration for the year 2009.
1. Dr. Nikhil C. Munshi- A professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a recognised international leader and a major force in translational research in Multiple Myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. Known for his researches in this kind of cancer, he has been selected in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2010.
2. Dr. Tejinder Singh - With more than 25 years of teaching experience, Christian Medical College's Professor of Paediatrics and Medical Education and Vice-Principal, Dr Tejinder Singh has been selected for Dr BC Roy National Award, a prestigious award in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2010.
3. Prof. O.P. Kalra- Vice Chancellor of Pandit BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, Haryana, Prof OP Kalra has known for his vast teaching experience as well as contribution to the field of Nephrology in the country. He has been selected in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2010.
4. Dr. Amrinder Jit Kanwar - Currently working as HOD Dermatology at Sharda University, Greater Noida, Dr. Amrinder Jit Kanwar Retired as Senior Professor and Head of Department of Dermatology and Venereology and Leperology at PGI Chandigarh. He has 592 publications in dermatology to his credit , He has been selected in the category of Eminent Medical Teacher for the year 2010.
5. Dr. Subash Gupta- Founder and Chief Of Centre for Liver and Biliary Sciences at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi, Dr. Subash Gupta is one of the most prominent liver transplant and gastrointestinal surgeons in the country. He has been selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2010.
6. Dr. Rajendra Prasad- Currently, Director Medical Education and HOD of Pulmonary Medicine at Eras Lucknow Medical College and Hospital, he has selected in the category of Recognition of the Best Talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches in Medicine for the year 2010.
7. Dr. Glory Alexander- A pass out of CMC vellore and founder of NGO ASHA foundation, Dr Glory Alexander is known for her work in the field of HIV AIDS and making difference to the lives of thousands of teenagers who have been infected with HIV/AIDS. She has been selected in the category of outstanding service Socio Medical Relief for the year 2010
