India, Tajikistan explore bilateral cooperation in Traditional Medicine
The Tajikistan Ambassador met the Ayush Secretary to explore bilateral cooperation in traditional medicine, including research, education, trade and scholarships.
New Delhi: India and Tajikistan have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of traditional medicine, with both sides exploring measures to strengthen collaboration in research, education, trade and institutional partnerships.
H.E. Lukmon Bobokalonzoda, Ambassador of Tajikistan to India, met Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, to discuss opportunities to advance cooperation between the two countries in the traditional medicine sector.
During the meeting, the two sides explored the possibility of signing a country-level Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Traditional Medicine. The proposed agreement could provide a framework for further cooperation between India and Tajikistan in the sector.
Another key proposal discussed was the establishment of an Ayush Chair in Tajikistan. The discussions also covered opportunities to expand joint research related to medicinal herbs, with a focus on strengthening collaboration between the two countries in this area.
Trade and access to Ayush products also formed part of the discussions. The sides explored possibilities for establishing trade pathways that could facilitate greater engagement around Ayush products between India and Tajikistan.
The meeting also included discussions on opportunities for Tajik students under the Ayush Scholarship programme. The initiative could provide avenues for students from Tajikistan to pursue educational opportunities related to AYUSH systems in India.
Senior officers from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of AYUSH were also present during the meeting. Their participation reflected the involvement of both institutions in discussions concerning education, international cooperation and the promotion of traditional medicine.
The meeting highlighted several potential areas for strengthening India-Tajikistan engagement in traditional medicine, including a formal bilateral MoU, an Ayush Chair, collaborative research on medicinal herbs, trade opportunities for Ayush products and scholarship opportunities for Tajik students.
The discussions are part of efforts to explore avenues for deeper bilateral cooperation in traditional medicine and create greater institutional, academic and commercial linkages between the two countries.
