Ayushman Bharat a big gift for poor and needy: Union Home Minister

Lucknow (UP): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asserted that the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana - Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY-AB) is one of the best gift for poor people of the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also praised the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Further outlining the benefits of Ayushman Bharat, Singh said, "In Lucknow alone, 45 people have been treated since the launch of this scheme. Ayushman Bharat is a very big gift to poor countrymen from the Prime Minister. In India, as much as 5 crore people have gone below the poverty line because of the financial burden of a medical emergency."

"He launched Swachh Bharat Mission to ensure wellness of people, as cleanliness leads to wellness. Even World Health Organisation has praised India's Swachh Bharat Mission," Singh added.

On the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced AB-PMJAY scheme from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The Prime Minister later launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)- Ayushman Bharat in Jharkhand's capital Ranchi on September 23. During the event, he had also laid foundation stones for medical colleges in Chaibasa and Koderma of Jharkhand.
