Drug Raid Uncovers Rs 6.60 Crore Worth of Spurious Medicines in Kolkata
In a joint investigation conducted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), East Zone, and the Drugs Control Directorate, West Bengal, a large quantity of anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, and other drugs suspected to be spurious were seized from a wholesale premises in Kolkata. The total market value of the drugs seized is estimated at approximately Rs. 6.60 Crore.
The raid was carried out at M/s Care and Cure For You in Kolkata.

Kerala HC Orders Status Quo in Kozhikode DMO Transfer Controversy
Kozhikode: The Kerala High Court on Friday directed authorities to maintain the status quo before the controversial transfer of medical officers at the Kozhikode District Medical Officer (DMO) office.
According to a recent media report, the controversy arose when the existing Kozhikode DMO N. Rajendran refused to relinquish his post to Dr. Asha Devi, who had been transferred from Ernakulam to Kozhikode as the new DMO. Rajendran challenged his transfer to the directorate as Additional Director in the Kerala Administrative Tribunal (KAT), while Dr Asha Devi officially took charge on December 10 but faced resistance.

Raipur: In an upcoming major boost to medical education in the state, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to set up 15 new medical colleges across the state after receiving approval from the central government for a special funding allocation of Rs 4,400 crore aimed at development and reform initiatives in Chhattisgarh.
At present, Chhattisgarh is home to 14 medical colleges, which include 11 government institutions, 1 AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), and 3 private colleges. The addition of 15 new medical colleges will bring the total number in the state to 29.

Indian-Origin Doctor killed in UAE Plane Crash during Sightseeing trip
New Delhi: A tragic light aircraft crash off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday claimed the lives of a 26-year-old Indian-origin resident doctor and a Pakistani pilot.
The incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off from the Jazirah Aviation Club at 2 pm. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE has confirmed the crash and stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident. Reports suggest the doctor had rented the plane for a sightseeing experience.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court bench recently directed a Maharashtra-based eye surgeon to pay Rs 3.5 lakh compensation to a patient, who developed an infection and abscess after undergoing a cataract surgery around 25 years ago.
Even though the State Consumer Court had asked the doctor to pay compensation, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) had held that there was no negligence on the doctor's part.
