Chhattisgarh to soon get 15 new medical colleges

Raipur: In an upcoming major boost to medical education in the state, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to set up 15 new medical colleges across the state after receiving approval from the central government for a special funding allocation of Rs 4,400 crore aimed at development and reform initiatives in Chhattisgarh.

At present, Chhattisgarh is home to 14 medical colleges, which include 11 government institutions, 1 AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), and 3 private colleges. The addition of 15 new medical colleges will bring the total number in the state to 29.

As per an India Tv news report, the fund's approval came into action after the centre recognised the state's remarkable performance in administrative reforms, digital governance, and strengthening of health facilities.

Explaining more about the incentive, a government spokesperson told Millenium Post, "The Central government, impressed by the state’s remarkable performance, has approved a special incentive of Rs 4,400 crore to be utilised for the development of infrastructure, health, education, and other key sectors. Under this incentive, priority will be given to digital governance, the single-window system, and health infrastructure in Chhattisgarh. Additionally, the funds will play a crucial role in establishing 15 new medical colleges, modernizing urban local bodies, and enhancing hospital facilities across the state."

Expressing gratitude and appreciation to the central government, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “The recognition of our reforms and developmental efforts by the central government is a matter of pride for the entire state. This incentive will help Chhattisgarh emerge as a model state on the national stage.”

Further Vishnudev Sai emphasized that the incentive is a new direction not only for the state but for the entire country and will bring positive changes in the lives of our citizens.

Similarly, Finance Minister OP Chaudhary stated that this incentive would serve as a decisive step toward improving the quality of life for the people of Chhattisgarh.

Medicity Project in Nava Raipur

According to a PTI news agency report, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to develop a 5,000-bed medicity on 200 acres of land at Nava Raipur. The project aims to develop medical tourism and give it international recognition.

Several multi-specialty hospitals, medical colleges, hostels, diagnostic centres, hotels and boarding facilities will be developed under the medicity project which will benefit the people of Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states.

The land has been earmarked in sector-37 of Nava Raipur, an official said, adding that the project would come up in collaboration with the private sector.

The Nava Raipur Development Authority recently held a preliminary meeting with the Central undertaking Infratech Services to set up medicity, the official said. The project is proposed to be linked with the Medicity Scheme of the Union Government, he added.

The Medicity Project is a government initiative that provides access to information and services from government departments electronically.
