Air India Plane Crashed into Ahmedabad's BJ Medical College Hostel
In a tragic turn of events, the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which was bound for London, crashed into the Ahmedabad-based BJ Medical College hostel.
The aircraft reportedly crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday, sending up a massive plume of black smoke. The reason for the crash is not yet known.
While further details are awaited on the matter, several social media posts are claiming that due to the crash, many MBBS students have lost their lives.
Videos of the plane crashing into the medical college hostel mess are also circulating on social media platforms.
Reportedly, several interns and resident doctors have lost their lives due to the tragic incident, while many others are injured. Some of the social media posts claimed that the plane crashed into the mess of BJMC Ahmedabad, which was destroyed. As per reports, many students were having lunch at the time of the crash. Lists of injured students who are admitted to the hospital are also circulating on social media.
Reacting to the incident, the FAIMA Doctors Association wrote on X, "We are deeply shocked about the news of AI , crashing in Ahmedabad. ! News have become more gruesome after finding out that flight had crushed in BJMC, Hostel & many MBBS students have also been injured!!!! We are monitoring the situation closely & are ready for any help!"

PG Medical Admissions: Punjab and Haryana HC Upholds Reallocation of UT Quota Seats to AIQ
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently upheld the decision of the Chandigarh administration to reallocate vacant Union Territory (UT) quota seats in postgraduate (PG) medical courses to the All India Quota (AIQ) seats.
Challenging the move, some of the PG medical aspirants had argued that the move violated the judgment of the Supreme Court. However, a Division bench of Justices Mahabir Singh Sindhu and H.S. Grewal dismissed the plea.
On June 3, the UT administration issued a notification that diverted unfilled UT Pool seats at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, to the AIQ pool.
As per the latest media report by the Indian Express, the petitioners had contended that these seats should have gone to the Institutional Preference (IP) category under the state quota for local candidates.
The counsel for the petitioners, Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh, submitted before the Court, "While taking a complete U-turn… without any authority of law and also in complete violation of Shrey Goel’s judgment, respondent No. 2 has issued the impugned public notice… wherein vacant U.T. Pool seats have been diverted to A.I.Q. against [the] maximum limit of 50%."

Brutal assault on Delhi doctor: Doctors' bodies demand security reforms
Several doctors and prominent medical bodies have come together to demand immediate intervention and justice following the brutal assault of a second-year female DNB resident doctor from the gynaecology department at Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College & Hospital (BSA), Rohini, Delhi, on June 9.
In statements and representations sent to central and state authorities, the associations have called for the prompt release of CCTV footage to ensure transparency, FIR registration under relevant legal provisions for physical assault, attempted strangulation, and attack on a public servant, and arrests and chargesheets against all accused without delay.
A dedicated security measures which include 24×7 trained personnel, regular police patrols, real-time CCTV, and a national helpline for healthcare workers and Gender-sensitive protocols and zero-tolerance policies in all government hospitals, especially in emergency areas and hostels and activation of the National Task Force for hospital security.

HC quashes FIR against doctor, nurse in expired vaccine case
Observing that no criminal intent or gross medical negligence was involved, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court has quashed an FIR and all criminal proceedings against a doctor, who is the owner of Pawar Hospital in Majalgaon and a nurse posted there who were accused of giving an expired vaccine to an infant in 2022.
The case dates back to November 7, 2022, when an infant at Pawar Hospital in Majalgaon was allegedly administered a dose of the rotavirus vaccine that had expired in March that year. However, the child did not suffer any side effects and remained healthy.
Calling the case filing "a mistake, as no element of criminality was involved," the division bench of Justice Vibha Kankanwadi and Justice Sanjay Deshmukh observed that there was no prima facie evidence of gross negligence, nor was there any expert medical board opinion to support the criminal charges against the doctor and the nurse. The bench held that allowing the proceedings to continue would be a misuse of the legal process.
