AIIMS is reported to have identified a new site for expanding its Trauma Centre, an in-house transplantation centre and centre for Digestive diseases after receiving an allocation of additional 15 acre of land from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

As a step forward, the site for expansion of trauma centre is located on the 26-metre-wide Choudhary Jhandu Singh Marg near the existing Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center and will be integrated with the existing AIIMS campus by an underpass, reported by PTI.

This new land measure is being considered carefully by the AIIMS administration to ease the pressure of patients due to rush at the trauma centre. AIIMS authorities are also reported to be keen for more land allocation for expanding its facilities to accommodate more doctors at its residential campus facilities. A substantial number of resident doctors and staff are living outside the AIIMS premises at present, as confirmed by a senior doctor at the hospital.

"DDA has allotted 15 acres of land on which we are envisioning to carry out expansion of Trauma Centre and also set up a centre for Digestive diseases, an ENT centre, a national Transplantation Centre and a neuro and spine rehabilitation centre," AIIMS Director M C Mishra said.

AIIMS has proposed to connect Safdarjung Hospital, the new land for Safdarjung hospital and AIIMS campus at Ansari Road.

"We are also moving into redeveloping the Western campus and Ayurvigyan nagar, for bringing up accommodation, for our faculty and all other staff, which has been a real problem for us," said Dr Mishra.

According to sources at AIIMS, the Union Health Minister has also written to Finance Minister to allocate some houses in Kidwai nagar for the faculty and staff.

Besides that, with several of its doctors and senior faculty members having not been provided accommodation at AIIMS, the institute is planning to redevelop the Western campus and Ayurvigyan Nagar.
