Death by negligence: Unani practitioner administered allopathic injections, arrested

Following the death of the patient, a case of accidental death was registered in the Daighar police.

The family of the patient alleged that the medical practitioner had given four injections in 50 minutes during the treatment which probably led to the overdose or reaction due to which the patient allegedly died.

The police team carried out the investigation on the matter. The police found that the medical

practitioner had gained his degree in Unani medicine in 2001 from a college in Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh.

The police during its investigation also seized the injections, medicines and saline which were used during the treatment of the patient.

The police officials sought the reply from Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine (MCIM) in this regard which informed that he was unauthorized to give the allopathic injections.

A police official told the Mumbai Mirror that 'The probe revealed that Dr Khan despite not having rights to practice allopathy, gave allopathy injections after which the patient's health deteriorated and he died'.

He was booked under section 304 (causing death by negligence) and section 25 (rights of registered practitioners to practice) of Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, the officer further added.

The medical practitioner was then arrested by the Daighar police and was produced to a local court which remanded him to judicial custody.
