An Instagram reel claims that a Mix of Flaxseed Oil and Homemade Paneer Cures Cancer. The claim is FALSE.

Claim

In an Instagram reel claims that Mix of Flaxseed Oil and Homemade Paneer Cures Cancer. In the reel by ayat_irfan1985 it is said, "If flaxseed oil, extracted through a cold process, is mixed with homemade paneer (from Indian cow, goat, or buffalo milk) and consumed morning, afternoon, and evening before meals, it can cure the patient from cancer."

The claim can by accessed here.

Fact Check

The claim is FALSE. Flaxseeds may offer some benefits in cancer prevention, but there's no scientific evidence or medical consensus that flaxseed oil and homemade paneer can cure cancer. It is a chronic condition which cannot be cured.

What is Cancer?

Cancer is a condition in which certain cells in the body grow uncontrollably and can spread to other areas. It can arise in nearly any part of the body, which is made up of trillions of cells. Under normal circumstances, cells grow, divide, and replace old or damaged ones in a highly regulated process. In cancer, this control is lost damaged or abnormal cells grow and divide when they shouldn't.

These uncontrolled cells may cluster into tissue lumps called tumors. Tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Malignant tumors are dangerous because they can invade surrounding tissues and travel to other organs through a process known as metastasis, forming new tumors. While many cancers form solid tumors, others, such as leukemia, affect the blood and do not.

Can Cancer Be Cured?

While cancer cannot be cured, it can often be brought into remission. Remission means that the cancer has responded to treatment, with little or no evidence of disease remaining, and no immediate need for further therapy. However, declaring cancer "cured" is rare due to the potential for recurrence, sometimes years after treatment.

American Cancer Society says, "Whether a person’s cancer can be cured depends on the type and stage of the cancer, the type of treatment they can get, and other factors. Some cancers are more likely to be cured than others. But each cancer needs to be treated differently. There isn’t one cure for cancer."

What are the Health Benefits of Flaxseed Oil and Homemade Paneer?

Flaxseed oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and lignans, offers multiple health benefits. It supports heart health by reducing inflammation and improving lipid profiles, helps manage diabetes by enhancing insulin sensitivity, and shows potential in preventing cancers due to its antioxidant and hormone-modulating effects. Additionally, it protects brain function, strengthens bones, and promotes gut health through its anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and antimicrobial properties, making it a valuable addition to a health-focused diet.

Paneer is a nutrient-dense dairy product rich in protein, calcium, phosphorus, and B vitamins, making it beneficial for muscle growth, bone strength, and overall metabolism. Regular, moderate consumption supports satiety, aids in weight management, and promotes heart and digestive health due to its low carbohydrate content. Homemade paneer, free from preservatives and additives, offers a fresher, safer alternative with better nutrient retention, making it ideal for both children and adults seeking a clean, wholesome protein source.

Can a Mix of Flaxseed Oil and Homemade Paneer Cure Cancer?

The claim that a mixture of flaxseed oil and homemade paneer (cottage cheese) can cure cancer is false. While some components in flaxseed and dairy have shown potential health benefits, there is no scientific evidence or medical consensus supporting that panner or this combination as a standalone or effective cure for cancer.

Flaxseed oil, a rich source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) like α-linolenic acid, along with its fibers and lignans, is associated with several potential health benefits. According to a study published in the European Journal of Medical Research, it may help lower the risk of conditions such as cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, and certain autoimmune and neurological disorders.

Another study by Samina Kauser et. al. reported a rise in flaxseed consumption, attributing it to its potential in reducing the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer.

Flaxseeds and its oil are often believed to help reduce cancer risk, but there is currently no scientific evidence or medical consensus supporting the claim by user. Moreover, there is no scientific evidence linking paneer to cancer or suggesting it plays any role in its prevention. Cancer is a chronic disorder and cannot be cured.

Responding to the claim, Dr. Prashant Chandra - Associate Consultant Surgical Oncology, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital said "Flaxseed oil is rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. Thus, overall, it has good nutritional value. A fiber-rich diet is a known protector against colon cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids themselves prevent inflammation, a critical precancerous event, and antioxidants prevent the generation of free radicals, which are known to cause cancer.

Similarly, paneer is high in calcium and vitamin D, both have known cancer-preventive action. In a few animal studies, flaxseed oil has shown the potential to prevent cancer genesis, but this is too early to draw conclusions. Until the benefit is demonstrated in large-scale cohort studies, it will be premature to infer. All the benefits are preventive in nature, and stating that flaxseed oil and paneer can cure cancer wouldn’t be correct.

Flaxseed oil and dairy products are a healthy part of the Indian diet. Theoretically, they may have cancer-preventive action, but would recommend them only if we see any benefit in human-based cohort studies. Also, I would also like to caution readers against animal fat in dairy products like paneer, as it itself is a risk factor for colon, breast, and prostate cancer if consumed in large amounts."

Dr. Siddhesh Tryambake, Associate Consultant Medical Oncology, Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital further said, "While some natural ingredients are often promoted as having cancer-curing potential, it’s crucial to understand the difference between preventive nutrition and proven medical treatment. Natural foods like flaxseed and paneer are often highlighted in cancer-related conversations for their potential health benefits. However, it's important to separate nutritional value from therapeutic claims.

For postmenopausal women with breast cancer, a daily intake of 25 g of ground flaxseed has been shown to reduce tumor proliferation and enhance apoptosis. Observational studies indicate around a 20% lower risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women who consume higher amounts of lignans, such as a ¼ cup of flaxseed daily. However, for premenopausal women, the preventive effects remain less conclusive. While the findings are promising, they are yet to be confirmed through larger, universally accepted randomized trials.

In the case of paneer, a high intake of dairy, particularly whole milk and paneer, is biologically linked to increased IGF‑1 and mTORC1 signaling, mechanisms associated with prostate cancer progression. Cohort data supports a modestly elevated risk, though this is not yet universally accepted. For other cancers such as breast and colorectal, observational studies and reviews suggest no direct harmful effect."

Medical Dialogues Final Take

The idea that a mixture of flaxseed oil and homemade paneer can cure cancer is not supported by scientific evidence or medical consensus. While flaxseed contains certain nutrients that may offer general health benefits, including a possible role in reducing cancer risk, it should never be considered a substitute for evidence-based cancer treatments. Moreover, there is no credible evidence to suggest that homemade paneer has any effect on cancer. Cancer is a complex and chronic disease and requires appropriate medical interventions.

Hence, the claim is FALSE.
