Health Ministry appoints Interventional Cardiologist, MAMC dean, Dr Sanjay Tyagi as DGHS

New Delhi: One of the leading interventional cardiologists in the country, and the current Dean of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) has now been given the charge of Director General Health Services (DGHS) at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With the appointment, Dr Tyagi replaces Dr Ashok Kumar Saxena who is now going to be posted at RML Hospital, New Delhi in non-administrative capacity.
Dr Sanjay Tyagi, 61 years will continue to hold the position of DGHS till he attains 62 years of age. The cardiologist has been appointed to the government post as an additional charge with immediate effect, and he will continue with his present positions of Dean, MAMC and Director GB Pant PG Institute.
The office order issued by CS Bahuguna, Under Secretary to the Govt of India, to this effect, clearly stated
Cardiologist and academician, Dr Tyagi has been Faculty member at GB Pant Institute & MAMC since 1986 as well as a Professor & Head of Cardiology department since 2004 also serving as the Director of GB Pant PG Institute during 2014-16. Under his leadership, Super-speciality (DM/Mch) programmes of G B Pant Postgraduate Institute are consistently ranked among the best in the country.
An avid researcher, Dr Sanjay Tyagi has over 300 research publications in major indexed International & National Cardiovascular journals such as American Heart Journal, Circulation, Pediatrics, Cath Cardiovascular Interventions, JACC and as contributed many chapters to leading textbooks on the subject of Cardiology.
He has been conferred various national honours including the Dr.B.C. Roy Award by President of India.
In the month of November 2018, he was appointed as the Dean Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi (MAMC)

with the approval of the competent authority, it has been decided that Dr. Sanjay Tyagi, Director Professor, (Cardiology) presently posted under government of NCT of Delhi as Dean, Maulana Azad Medical College & Director GB Pant Insitute of PMER will look after the work of DGHS w.e.f. 12.09.2019, till he attains 62 years of age of a DGHS is posted on regular/officiating basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
DR A.K Saxena who is presently looking after the work of DGHS is hereby posted to RML Hospital in Non-Administrative capacity in terms of Ministry's OM No.A.12034/4/2018-CHS.V dated 13.08.2018.
