New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for evaluating the examination process as a part of inspection for recognition and recognition.

In its notice, the apex medical regulator mentioned that its Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has decided to follow the following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be implemented with immediate effect for the purpose of evaluating the examination process as a part of inspection for recognition/recognition against increased intake/renewal of recognition of course of a qualification:

i. The medical colleges/ institutes will conduct examination as per guidelines given in the PGMER in vogue and will keep a video record of the exam process and all relevant data about the examiners, examination process, details of the cases kept for the examination, thesis of the students etc. Henceforth there will not be physical or online inspection of examination process and Universities can go ahead with conduct of examination as per schedule.

ii. Physical assessment of the medical colleges/ institutes will be done after the examination is over and will assess the college regarding the infrastructure, clinical material, investigative material and other facilities and examination details as mentioned above.

All Medical Colleges/ Institutes and Assessors have been requested to take cognizance of the above SOP by the National Medical Commission.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that with an aim to standardize the process of application for new medical colleges, increase of seats for the UG and PG medical courses, and in order to streamline the process of assessment (selection of assessors and assessment), the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now prepared new guidelines.

These new guidelines have been prepared by the NMC Board on the basis of the revised Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023 and the Undergraduate Minimum Standard Requirements (UG MSR) 2023.
