Ayurveda graduates to perform surgeries: NMC member opposes move

Patna: Member National Medical Commission (NMC) Sahjanand Prasad Singh recently requested the Chairman, National Medical Commission to review and rectify the decision allowing Ayurveda graduates to perform surgeries in the interest of the people and medical fraternity as well.
In his letter to the Chairman Suresh Chandra Sharma, Dr Singh tried to draw the attention of the latter towards the decision and said that such decision through which the untrained Ayurveda graduate were allowed to perform surgical procedure in general people was detrimental to public health.
He further said that being an eminent ENT surgeon, the Chairman can easily understand that performing a cataract surgery was not Ayurvedic graduates domain. Even other surgeries need proper training expertise and infrastructure set up. Most of them need anaesthesia for which qualified doctors are required.

Dr Singh asked the chairman to reconsider the decision and rectified it in the interest of the common people.
