Former RGUHS VC Dr MK Ramesh appointed New President of NMC MARB

New Delhi: A renowned surgeon and the former Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru-based Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Dr. M. K. Ramesh, has now been appointed as the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), under the National Medical Commission (NMC). Earlier, Dr. Ramesh also served as the President of the NMC Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB).
After pursuing MBBS from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Dr. M. K. Ramesh completed his MS General Surgery from the same institute and thereafter was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), England.
Dr. Ramesh joined as a Lecturer and later as an Associate Professor at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute in 1999. In 2017, he was the acting VC at RGUHS for around eighteen months. Before that, Dr. Ramesh also served as a Registrar (Evaluation) at RGUHS. Thereafter, in 2019, he was transferred back to BMCRI as the Head of the Department of Surgery.
Back in 2020, he was appointed as the President of the Postgraduate Medical Education Board, NMC. Even though his tenure as PGMEB President was for four years, he resigned from the post and joined as the Registrar of the RGUHS in 2021.
Now, Dr. Ramesh is to take charge as the President of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the Apex Medical Commission. Confirmation of his appointment came as the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) announced on 11.07.2025 that it has approved the proposal of the Union Health Ministry for the appointment of Dr. Ramesh to the post of President, MARB, in terms of Section 17(2) of the NMC Act, 2019.
Previously, Dr. B.N.Gangadhar held the office as the President of MARB. However, the post became vacant after Dr. Gangadhar took charge as the Chairperson of the NMC.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training has approved the appointment of Dr. Ramesh to the post of President of Medical Assessment and Rating Board for four years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or till attaining the age of 70 years or until further orders.
