Cuttack: Bringing good news to medical aspirants in Odisha, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the proposal for starting a new medical college at DRIEMS Institute of Health Sciences and Hospital, Cuttack under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

The apex medical education regulatory body NMC has permitted the state to commence the MBBS admission in 100 seats at the medical college from the academic year 2023-2024. The proposal has been approved based on the assessment reports and compliance verification assessments.

In a letter of intent (LOI) issued by NMC on June 1 mentioned "The present proposal has been approved on the basis of the assessment report dated 7.2.2023 and physical compliance verification assessments report dated 22.5.2023 and the undertaking submitted by the College accepting all the terms and conditions mentioned in the letter of intent dated 24,5.2023."

The college authorities may take up the matter for recognition of the qualification under section 35(2) of the IMC Act at the time of first batch admitted against the sanctioned intake of 100 MBBS seats appears of final examination with National Medical Commission, it added.

The institution has been asked to fulfil and maintain norms including the infrastructure both physical and human resource. teaching faculty and clinical material throughout the academic year, as stipulated in Regulation of National Medical Commission (NMC).

“In case false/wrong declaration or fabricated documents have been used for procuring permission of the MARB and the said misconduct is brought to the notice of National Medical Commission (NMC) or found during surprise assessment at any stage during the current academic year. Your institution is liable, not be considered for recognition of the degree,” it further said.

It is mandatory for the institute to develop a biometric attendance, website on the medical college/institution and display all the information of the college, courses offered, faculty available and their experience of the last 5 years, students joined, and affiliating university. To display the hospital services, facilities available and the equipment in each speciality, also showing OP and IP census including births and deaths as per the municipal/Govt. records, the latter added.

DRIEMS Institute is a multi-campus university located in Odisha, India. The institute offers an array of technical, management and medical courses at both the graduate and post-graduate levels. The courses offer a comprehensive education, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
