NMC Completes Processing all 1675 Applications for Starting new PG Medical courses, intake Increase
New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now completed processing all the 1675 applications for starting new postgraduate medical courses and increase of PG medical seats in the existing courses.
NMC completed the process after communicating its final decision on the remaining 297 applications received from more than 73 medical institutes across the country.
Issuing a notice in this regard on 14.07.2024, NMC released a list of these 297 applications and informed that the Commission has communicated the final decisions to the medical colleges concerned through the email IDs, as mentioned in the online applications, for information and necessary action by them within the stipulated timeline.
Among these 297 applications, altogether 267 applications were for an increase of seats in the existing PG medical courses and 30 applications were from the medical institutes willing to start new PG medical courses.
With this, NMC concluded the process of communicating its decisions for altogether 1675 applications received in this regard. However, the Commission has clarified that the final decision does not mean approval in respect of all these applications.
"In continuation of MARB’s Public Notices dated 28th April, 2024 with reference to applications from medical institutions for start or increase of PG medical courses/seats, it is informed that final decisions of MARB in respect of 297 more applications (for starting of new PG Medical courses and increase of seats in PG Medical courses for the Academic year :2024-25) have been sent through email IDs (as mentioned in online applications) to the Medical Institutions/Colleges concerned for information and necessary action by them within the stipulated timeline," NMC stated in the notice dated 14.07.2024.
"A list containing application number of each of the aforesaid 297 applications (30 applications for starting of new PG Medical courses and 267 applications for increase of seats in PG Medical courses) is attached with this public notice for general information," it added.
Medical Dialogues had been reporting about the earlier communications by NMC notifying its final decisions on the applications seeking permission to start new PG medical courses or increase seats in the existing PG courses. Through a notice dated 28.04.2024, NMC had communicated its final decision to 18 medical colleges for the 101 applications for the starting of new PG medical courses and an increase of seats for the academic year 2024-2025. At that time, the Commission had informed that communications of the final decision in respect of remaining applications would be sent in due course.
Again on 04.05.2024, NMC issued another notice and communicated its final decision to 31 medical institutes in respect of 153 applications. In the last month, NMC issued more communications and notified its final decisions on several other applications. Recently, through a notice dated 03.06.2024, NMC notified its decision on 117 more applications to start or increase PG medical seats. Again on 12.06.2024, NMC notified its decision on 156 more applications. Similar communications were sent to the medical colleges on 21.06.2024 on 301 applications.
Referring to these earlier communications, NMC in the notice dated 14.07.2024 mentioned, "It may be recalled that vide MARB’s Public notice of even No. dated 28th April, 2024, 4th May, 2024, 10th May, 2024, 18th May, 2024, 21st May, 2024, 30th May, 2024, 03rd June, 2024, 12th June, 2024 and 21st June, 2024 it was informed that final decision in respect of 1378 online PG Medical course applications had already been communicated through the email IDs (as mentioned in online applications) to the Medical institutions/colleges concerned."
The Commission confirmed that it has communicated its final decision in respect of all the 1675 applications including 1010 applications for starting new PG medical courses and 665 applications for increase of PG medical seats to the concerned medical institutes.
"Hence, final decisions of MARB have now been communicated in respect of all 1675 applications (1010 applications for starting of new PG Medical courses and 665 applications for increase of seats in PG Medical courses) to the Medical Institutions/Colleges concerned for the Academic year:2024-25," it mentioned.
However, clarifying that final decision does not mean approval for these 1675 applications, NMC added, "Final decision does not mean approval in respect of all 1675 applications. It may be either approval or disapproval or acceding to the requests of Medical Institutions concerned for withdrawal of their applications. All the decisions will be uploaded on the website of NMC in due course."
