Earlier, these colleges had received notices from the Apex Medical Commission for failing to meet the essential standards.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that, noting critical faculty shortage along with a lack of essential resources, NMC had issued show-cause notices to the government medical colleges in Chhattisgarh. In some cases, the Commission had imposed a monetary penalty.
NMC had reportedly imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on Kanker Medical College, Rs 4 lakh fine on Durg Medical College, and Rs 3 lakh fine each in the medical colleges located at Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Mahasamund, and Jagdalpur. Further, the medical colleges in Mahasamund, Kanker, and Raigarh had also received show-cause notices over the shortage of faculty.

As per the latest media report by The Hitavada, NMC has now granted conditional approval to all State-run government and private medical colleges in the State. However, the Commission has granted four months of time to these institutes to fix the identified deficiencies. While the Commission has not penalised these colleges this year, it has warned that if the colleges don't meet the standards, their admissions will be restricted in the next academic session.
Confirming that NMC has granted a conditional renewal, a senior official from the Directorate of Medical Education, Chhattisgarh, informed that they are making full efforts to meet the NMC's standards within the given four-month timeframe.
The Daily has reported that to ensure the quality of medical education, NMC reduced 30 MBBS seats at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS), and the decision has continued this year as well.
NMC declared The Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Science and Researchers, Raipur, a "zero-admission" year for the first-year MBBS students in 2025-2026 due to a bribery scandal concerning an increase in MBBS seats.
All 10 state-run government medical colleges and 5 private medical colleges in the State failed to fulfill NMC's requirements, including infrastructure, lab facilities, and faculty. The list of these institutes also included the oldest institute, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur.
Commenting on the issue, an Associate Professor, Dr. Debjyoti Singharoy, highlighted that the major problems across these medical colleges include a shortage of faculty and inadequate infrastructure.
