The announcement in this regard was made by the Chairman of the Apex Medical Commission, Dr. Abhijat Sheth, at the 3rd convocation of Bhaikaka University in Karamsad, Anand, on Sunday.
Addressing the graduating students, the NMC Chief, Dr. Sheth, announced that the initiative by NMC & ICMR aims to strengthen India's medical research ecosystem and drive innovation-led healthcare solutions, TOI has reported.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that earlier this year, Dr. Sheth had announced that NMC was exploring the integration of clinical research into the mainstream medical curriculum. The NMC Chief had mentioned that plans were underway for a collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to strengthen research infrastructure and promote clinical research in medical education.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, Dr. Sheth further mentioned that 18,000 additional medical seats have been approved across the country and parallel efforts are underway for expanding the faculty capacity and ensure equitable, high-quality medical education.
Highlighting how the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are rising sharply and said that keeping this in mind, NMC's training reforms now include self-care, preventive healthcare and the ATCOM module on professionalism.
Referring to the COVID-19 experience, Dr. Sheth also stressed the requirement to instill a culture of preparedness among medical professionals.
Altogether 496 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students received their degrees during the convocation and 10 students were awarded gold medals for academic excellence.
BU president Dr Gauri Trivedi, provost Dr Abhay Dharamsi and other officials attended the event. The convocation ceremony also featured the 20th H M Patel Memorial Lecture, delivered by paediatrician and public health expert Dr Pravitra Mohan on "Equitable Healthcare in India: Leading the Change."
