New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission to Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, Nagpur to start the MCh Neuro Surgery course.

Writing to the Dean/Principal of the institute on 29.02.2024, NMC MARB referred to the Letter of Intent (LoI) dated 20.02.2024 and the letter of acceptance by the college dated 21.02.2024. The NMC stated -"...your application for Starting of M.Ch. Neuro Surgery course at Government Medical College and Super Specialty Hospital, Nagpur for (04) seats has been approved for the academic year 2024-2025. Approved for starting of (04) seats u/s 26(1)(a)(b), 28(1)(2) and 61(2) of the NMC Act, 2019 for the academic year 2024-2025, (as amended) subject to verification of Bank Guarantee / Undertaking."

"This Permission for Starting of above-mentioned PG course and admission of students will be for such time the first batch of students admitted against the above course appears for the final examination in the subject. The college authorities may take up the matter for recognition of the qualification under section 35(2) of the NMC Act, 2019 with National Medical Commission (NMC), at the time of examination of the first batch of students admitted against the sanctioned seats," the Commission clarified.

NMC further informed that the institute is fully responsible for fulfilling and maintaining norms including the infrastructure of both physical and human resources, teaching faculty, clinical material and Stipend to PG students similar to PG students of Govt. Colleges in the state. etc. throughout the academic year as stipulated in the Regulation of the National Medical Commission (NMC).

"In case false 'wrong declaration or fabricated documents have been used for procuring permission of the MARB and any misconduct is brought to the notice of National Medical Commission (NMC) or found during surprise assessment at any stage during the current academic year, your institution is liable, not to be considered for recognition of the degree. This letter of permission will be revoked for the current academic year in such exigency arise. Besides, National Medical Commission (NMC) is entitled to take all such measure against you and your college/institution as permissible under the law," the Commission stated.

NMC further mentioned that it is mandatory for the government medical colleges to contribute 15% of MBBS seats and 50% of Post Graduate Broad Specialties (MD MS) for All India Quota respectively, to MCC of DGHS for conduction of counselling as per the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court.

"It is mandatory to develop a website on the medical college institution and display all the information of the college, courses offered, faculty available and their experience of the last 5 years, students joined, and affiliating university. To display the hospital services, facilities available and the equipment in each specialty, also showing OP and IP census including births and deaths as per the municipal/ Govt. records," it clarified.
