NMC setting up panel of experts for NMC inspection, review of assessment reports, invites nominations from medical colleges
New Delhi: In order to assess the infrastructural facilities in the medical colleges and conduct inspection to grant permission for any new medical institute, or medical seats, the National Medical Commission has decided to make a panel of eligible experts.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC has decided that willing experts belonging to different specialities and who are working in the Government service for a minimum of 5 years will be included in this panel.
In this regard, the NMC board has recently written to the Deans and Principals of the Government medical colleges and asked them to submit nominations in respect of the officials who are willing to render their services
"It is requested that the information may be provided in the prescribed proforma which is enclosed for your ready reference. The duly filled proforma can also be sent through Email to member2.marb@nmc.org.in, president.marb@nmc.org.in and ds.marb@nmc.org.in within 15 days of issue of this letter," NMC board has mentioned in its letter dated 14.12.2022.
This comes after recently NMC notified that professors and associate professors from all Government Medical Colleges can be made Assessors and Experts of the National Medical Commission at any point of time for inspection of medical colleges. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that NMC had also clarified that whenever such experts are assigned any NMC duties, the colleges have to relieve them immediately.
Now the NMC board has written to the heads of the government medical colleges in this regard and asked them to submit nominations for the same. The letter issued by the President of MARB, Dr. B.N. Gangadhar mentioned, "Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission is associated with the work relating to granting of permission for establishment of new Medical College, increase of MBBS/PG/Super-speciality seats, renewal of permission for existing medical colleges."
"In order to assess the availability of faculty as well as infrastructure facilities etc. as per the NMC norms, it has been decided to make a panel of eligible and willing experts working in Government from different field of specialities, having minimum 5 years of experience in Assessment/ Inspection work," it further added.
Clarifying that the nominated officials will be conduct inspection of the colleges and should be ready to travel when required, the letter mentioned, "The nominated officials are required to assess/inspect the College as per MSR of NMC at a short notice and should be willing to undertake travel to any part of the country as and when required. Further, the officials will be required to visit NMC for scrutiny of Assessment Reports for MBBS and PG courses."
Directing the college authorities to submit nominations, the Apex medical commission added, "The Colleges may forward the nominations in respect of the officials who are willing to render their services as and when required for the above mentioned purposes and are cleared from vigilance angle, with absolute integrity and willing to perform the assigned duty in a time bound manner."
"The officials so selected will be paid suitable fee as per NMC norms for utilising their services," it further clarified.
According to the proforma attached with the NMC letter, the colleges will have to submit the name and designation of the officials, their speciality and qualifications, name of the government medical college, experiences of the officials as assessors, residential address of the concerned officials, their age and vigilance status.

Recently, NMC Ethics and Medical Registration Board of NMC announced its decision of setting up similar kind of panel of experts to offer comments on the appeals made against the decision of the State Medical Councils.
For the same, the NMC has sought details of eligible professors, additional professors and associate professors. Experts from different fields of specialties including Cardiology, Obs & Gynae, Oncology, Urology etc having 6 years or more of teaching experience will be part of this panel, NMC Ethics board recently informed.
