Use Khadi, Wear Khadi: NMC advises Doctors, Medical Colleges, Hospitals
New Delhi: Stressing the need to encourage the use of health beneficiary and eco-friendly products, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all the medical colleges and hospitals across the country to utilise Khadi products which are specially designed and manufactured for medical professionals.
The notification to this effect issued under the authority of Dr Aruna V Vanikar, President of the NMC's Under-Graduate Medical Education Board, calls for the usage of Khadi products by doctors, medical colleges and hospital management at their institutes to boost health and community development in India.
"All doctors and college/hospital management are advised to encourage/include the usage of Khadi products at their Institutes, Hospitals, Nursing Home, etc. and help in providing employment and building up of self-reliant & strong rural community," the NMC notification stated.
Not only NMC has advised doctors to wear their white coats in Khadi, but the apex medical regulator has also directed the medical institutions to use patient care products including Bed-sheet, Pillow covers, Apron, Curtains, Patient Gown, Soaps, Hand-wash, which are specifically manufactured in Khadi material.

As the doctors are mandatorily required to wear white coat during the duty hours, so they are advised to use white coat made of Khadi.
Khadi & Village Industries Commission also aims the usage of khadi products which are specially designed and manufactured for medical professionals, such as Bed-sheet, Pillow covers, Apron, Curtains, Patient's Gown, Soaps, Hand-wash, Phenyl etc. It has now scientifically been proven that products, made of Khadi are not only beneficial for health but also eco-friendly.
Hence, all doctors and medical college and hospital management are advised to include the usage of Khadi products at their Institutes, Hospitals, Nursing homes, and other health facilities.

In the year 2017, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare directed its 23 Central Government hospitals and medical research institutions across the country, such as AIIMS, NIMHANS and others, to buy Khadi products only. A list of 45 items had also been circulated for the exclusive use of hospitals and autonomous institutes associated with the health ministry.
