Kurnool: Kurnool Medical College has started an internal inquiry after a first-year MBBS student approached the National Medical Commission (NMC) with a ragging complaint.

In the complaint, the junior alleged that a third year student allegedly harrassed and forced him to perform humiliating acts such as “wall-sitting.” The harassment reportedly continued even after the junior resisted.

After being unbale to tolerate any longer, the student had submitted a complaint to the college principal on April 16 but did not name anyone in the complaint. With no action at that stage, the student later filed a complaint through the NMC’s online grievance portal.

Following this, the college administration acted and convened an emergency meeting of its Anti-Ragging Committee, under Principal Dr Lakshmi Chitti Narasamma. Statements of both the complainant and the accused student were recorded as part of an internal inquiry.

Commenting on the matter, Principal Dr Lakshmi Chitti Narasamma told Deccan Chronicle, "We received the complaint and immediately initiated an inquiry as per anti-ragging norms. We had also informed the Kurnool III town police and assured zero tolerance towards ragging."

The principal further said she had offered alternative accommodation if the student felt unsafe in the hostel, but had received no response so far. Meanwhile, some faculty members informally said such complaints often surface during periods of administrative change, though there was no official confirmation.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that altogether seven third-year MBBS students of Kakatiya Medical College at Warangal were suspended for six months after being found guilty of allegedly ragging some second-year students. The accused senior students allegedly forced the juniors to kneel on a boys' hostel terrace, and verbally abused them.
